Prologue

Within each of us lies a small universe, full of energy and hope, and of the expectations and imagination we hold for the unknown. Amid the rush and noise of city life, this small universe is a station where the heart can rest, recharge and set out again. Everyone needs such a space, where body and mind can stretch out and relax. This small universe is essential: it lets our hearts take flight.

Step into the Window of the City pavilion and, at first glance, you seem to be standing in the middle of the cosmos, with the Milky Way beneath your feet and the Earth before your eyes. Sharp-eyed visitors soon realize that the design invites us to look back at our own home from space. In the boundless starry sky, this small blue sphere glows proudly; look closer and you may make out the cities rising from its surface, or sense how tiny humankind is compared with the universe. And yet, tiny as we are, have we not built great cities? For thousands of years, the bonds between people, between people and society, and even between people and nature have been woven together into a single web, in which every thread moves the whole. In all these tangible constructions, what we truly see is the intangible fruit of human devotion.

Entering the performance space feels like entering the small universe in everyone’s heart. The 360° circular stage resembles the pupil of an eye, a window to the soul. Mist drifts through a mysterious atmosphere and clear music lingers in the air… Even before the show begins, the audience is immersed in a dreamlike mood, ready for the wonders to come…
